Maíz De Viracocha

A 1 track electro single (5m 27s) — released October 23rd 2020 on Rika Muzika

collective çhâñt élečtrónïqùe is a diverse group of producers and singers who come from five countries across two continents. Since first coming together in Portugal in 2019 they've been exploring the potentialities of traditional song and electronics, transitioning the boundaries of their own individual cultural heritage. Their forthcoming debut compilation album aptly titled " çhâñt élečtrónïqùe vol. 1 " consists of music from the singing traditions of Argentina, Portugal and Croatia with production from French, Irish and Croation producers. It is a rumination on ancient polyphonic singing traditions coupled with synth and computer based electronic patterns, all wrapped up into an esoteric sonic experience.

"We just went on this huge polyphonic song research trip! Literally and figuratively. We wanted to hear what would happen when these ancient singing traditions meet synthesisers, drum machines and computers. These songs are so robust, they have survived through centuries. They are like mountains and, like mountains, we love and respect them hugely. We wanted to see what they would feel like in an electronic context. It was a lot of fun for us to explore and we're delighted that, like the mountains, the songs are still standing strong..."

While each track has a story of it's own, the album as whole is a result of thecollective'sexploration of çultùrè, trâditioñ & ïdèntity as the fundamental parts of their creative vision, which they summarise with the following words:

"as trâditioñál musicians

we are interested in the potential of élečtroñics

to open new doors

to discover new ways for us to exist

to reveal new places to meet each other

in between

this is our excuse

to think

about çûltùrè

trâditioñ

ïdèntîty

and discover new parts of

ourselves

for the voices of the past we have respect

to the present moment of creation we are fully committed

and for the future?

we are very

very
