"When a band known for jazz-fusion covers of deadmau5, J Dilla and Planetary Assault Systems make an album, expect something flavourful."
Kozmodrum, Croatian 'organic dance music' pioneers, release their long-awaited third album, self-titled Kozmodrum on Rika Muzika.
"After our first two albums, that were each very different in their own way (the first being very jazz/fusion and the second very electronic/ambient) this album is the most truthful representation of how we really sound live" shared the band's founder, Janko Novoselić.
With constant shifts between the natural and the artificial, organized and improvised, quiet and loud, Kozmodrum create an unforgettable mantric performance. Using the framework of a DJ set, the compositions are played live, where the beat is 'looped' until a cue is given to make a change or switch to another part. The pieces are often minimalistic to start with, but evolve during the performance into more complex patterns, harmonies and melodies.
After their critically lauded second album,Gravity, for which the band received the highest musical award in Croatia, the 'Porin', for Best Club Album, they decided to capture the essence of their live performance...
"This was a liberating experience, where we could really bring some real energy and atmosphere into the studio."
Kozmodrumby Kozmodrum opens withPovratak na Parni Pogon, a re-arrangement of the songParni Pogonfrom their first ever album 'Na Tragu Satelita' : "We had fans of this tune that always wanted to hear it when we played live - whilst the old arrangement was more of a faster, fusion type of composition, with a peculiar motif everyone loved, we chose to transform that into this new track, but now with a strong four-to-the-floor feeling, and percussive drive."
Recording the album in Zagreb, Croatia after almost four years of rehearsing it through numerous live gigs and festivals, enabled the final result to sound truly spontaneous and organic...
"We recorded this album in three days, without much rehearsal, having played these tunes for so long together. The post-production was something just to spice up the music, to offer some more background and ambience, but the raw material is something that happens live every night we play - and that's why we called the album 'Kozmodrum."
While offering snippets of undefinable, futuristic aspirations, the evolving, musical themes across the album provide a headlong dash for new horizons, connecting instrumental soundscapes into what can only be described as a magic ride to the world of Kozmodrum.
Kozmodrum are Goran Delač (bass) / Hrvoje Galler (keyboards) / Ivan Kapec (guitar) / Elvis Penava (guitar) / Janko Novoselić (drums, percussion, synths, sounds & fx)

Yes! What an opener from Rika Muzika. Definitely a label to watch, and definitely in my 'box'! - Dom Servini Wah Wah 45s / Jazz Cafe / Same Speed Edits / SNC / Soho Radio, etc.
This is gorgeous, I'm in a new position at KCRW that includes sharing music with all of the DJs and compiling instrumental pieces for those on the news side to work with in production/talk breaks. This piece is a dream for both. - Marion Hodges KCRW
Crazy to read that this song was written five years ago and has taken many shapes to this day - Kerem Gokmen Dubmission Radioshow
Fantastic track. It bumps, slips, slithers and grooves from the first note to the last with layers galore. For me, this is a direction I have to believe Wather Report would have eventually travelled had they been able to stick around to see the 21st century. - Thom Jurek allmusic.com
